Kananga is a small village in the Mbam-et-Inoubou department of central Cameroon. It covers an area of around 10 kilometers and is located 90 kilometers from the capital, Yaoundé.
Today, this small village has a completely disused health center that no longer meets the needs of the population. Providing Kananga with a health facility to promote access to care is becoming a vital emergency for the village.
To complement the government’s recent action to rehabilitate the existing health hut built in 1980, local elites are mobilizing to raise funds for a project to build an integrated health center, essential to the survival of this small village and the surrounding localities. Thanks to the efforts of these elites, access to drinking water through the construction of 6 boreholes has helped to reduce or even eradicate certain diseases, but there are clear needs in terms of care for women of childbearing age, access to prenatal consultations, more widespread vaccination campaigns, prevention and management of childhood illnesses… Added to this are diseases endemic to the region, such as malaria, onchocerciasis (a parasitic disease affecting the eyes and skin) and schistosomiasis (an acute disease caused by parasitic worms).
It was this state of affairs that led the French diaspora in Kananga to seek Prosperi’s support, mindful and willing to make a contribution.
